What To Do When The Washer Won’t Run

panasonic appliance repairThe last thing you want is a washer that isn’t running, turning on, or starting up at all. If your washer won’t run, don’t panic. While there are a number of different issues that can be the cause of a washer not running correctly, or at all, understand that many of these problems have simple enough solutions. More often than not, this can be blamed on one or several parts no longer working as they should. Remember that the washing machine is made up of many parts and components.

If the washer is getting power as it should, the next step is to call in the washer professionals. That is where we can come in. At HandiFix Appliance Repair, we can eliminate every possibility to figure out exactly what’s going on with your washer.

The Door Switch Strike

If you own a front-loading washer, the door switch is going to be a primary safety feature. The washer will not start until the door is properly closed, meaning the switch has connected. When the switch has become damaged, or even broken, the washer isn’t going to start. We can test the door switch for continuity. We will also check the strike which engages with your door lock assembly.

The Lid Switch

If you own a top-loading washer, you’re going to have a lid switch instead. In a similar fashion to the door switch strike, this component to the washer can become faulty. If this occurs, the switch is not going to be activated, and the washer will fail to start as it should. Remember that if the lid switch isn’t working properly, the motor for your washing machine isn’t going to start at all.

The Drive Motor

Both top-loading washers and front-loading washers utilize what is known as a drive motor. This part is responsible for the spin and agitation cycles. If you start your washer, and nothing seems to be happening, it could be that this invaluable component has become too worn down to continue.

We can replace the drive motor, or anything else at fault when the washer won’t run. Contact us for an appointment.
